ĐÀ LẠT: Best Places to Stay

Fundamentally, a shelter is needed during a typical trip if you don’t plan for any camping venture. Not a place for epic adventure experience, Da Lat is not home for such rough moment. Plus, the weather is so fine – for “tropicalanders” of course – to seek a shelter inside.

Since Da Lat is elevating its service and becoming one of the top attractions you must see in 2016, voted by New York Times, travelers have their rights to be picky over accommodation to enjoy Da Lat at its best.

Several times visiting the endless-flower-seasoned city, I have come up with tips of where to stay and where not to in Da Lat.

City central

You might want to choose either the Tulip Hotel or its sibling Tulip Hotel 2 for a value stay. Stayed here twice in 2011 and 2012 and it never fell me. The pricing varied from 400,000 – 800,000 VND, the priciest room is the quartet one.

Hoang Minh Chau is another option with relatively higher price starting at 600,000 or 650,000 VND for room with balcony.

Saphir Hotel, throwback vibe exterior but not recommendable since the room quality is low and high price

Saphir Hotel is just around the slope looking at 3/2 Street but you never want to check in. I stayed here with a friend and could not help disliking it. We were fooled by the grandeur exterior on a booking website, while the interiors failed our expectation completely. The room was old and some malfunction in the bathroom that left cracking sound. Plus, the cat at night sounded exactly like something you wouldn’t want to happen on Halloween night.

On the bright side, their breakfast menu is served with many specialties and delightful fruits. And they give off pretty good service from staffs.

One of the villa in TerraCotta

There are Eden Resort and TerreCotta located near Tuyen Lam Lake, which guarantee you a peaceful and relaxing hiatus. I have only been to the latter one, so here is one quick review: IT’S AWESOME.

The price is good during my visit in November which was anemone and sunflower season, around 1,500,000 VND for a deluxe room which I loved. I heard some feedbacks of my friends who had been there before, they advised me to choose the deluxe only since the standard won’t let you have a view to the pine wood like in the photo above. A gym is equipped and a huge event space is available at the garden area.

The only downside of the resort is its breakfast which didn’t live up to the 4-star rating. I thought it could be better. Additionally, one night my room was left open mysteriously that we couldn’t help being anxious.

TerraCotta, in general, is well worth a stay. I was able to roam freely in the resort property and walked along some fancy villa, with affordable price starting at 3,000,000 VND. I will definitely recommend this place for anyone with average to big budget.

Most “Instagrammable” places

Even though I haven’t been to any of these hostels, but I could definitely recommend you the best options out there thanks to my friends recommendations.

Nhà Của Tre designed by a group of young Vietnamese interior designers now earns a heart in the traveler community thanks to its complex yet impressive interior design using old and daily life materials.

My friend huyvespa has the privilege to stay in the place thanks to one-week-prior booking. You always have to book in advance if you want to stay in this Instagrammable hostel. Pricing is around 250,000 – 350,000 / prs.

Lữ Tấn Inn is another cool and chic hostel which makes travelers line up to book a room, even though the price starts from 800,000 VND. But this place guarantees a perfect place for moody Instagram posts.
